Minimal Emulator Skins

The emulator skins SUCK. Yeah, I originally wanted the cool looking skins (like my Nexus One skin), but then after you develop for a while, they just frustrate you. They waste screen real estate – with a keyboard that, let’s face it.. you don’t need, and those pretty (useless) borders. They also happen to have buttons on there that don’t even work (the camera and power buttons). I don’t need to see what the device looks like, I need to see what my APP will look like… that’s really all that matters.

Because of this, I created skin sets for QVGA, HVGA, WVGA800, and WVGA854 that I call ‘minimal’… they don’t have any of that crap you don’t need. They are based on the default emulator skins, with the useless bits ripped out.

Android Emulator Minimal Skins: minimal-skins-1.0.zip

Download the zip file and extract it to your <sdk-directory>/platforms folder. This is because I created the skins to match the platforms you will need them for.

You can see I can have many emulators open (I am using the -scale option to scale them to my screen). The skins cover the resolutions in portrait and landscape modes.

Nexus One Emulator Skin

Thought I would make my Nexus One Android emulator skin available for those who are interested.. just put the zip contents in <androidsdkdir>/platforms/android-x.x/skins/nexusone
